Beskrivelse: The first Finlandia Newsreel was shown in 1943. The 400th Finlandia Newsreel of January 1959 was put together by Kari Uusitalo and is an action-packed summary of the captivating subjects in the previous 399 newsreels, depicting life in the 1940s and 1950s. From wartime to rebuilding and peace, war reparations, the Helsinki Olympics, Porkkala, general strike, Sputnik, the first Finnish tourists in Vyborg in 1958. The camera journeys around Finland and around the world, sees unrest, meets a multitude of people from film star Taina Elg to Professor Arvo Ylppö, and from Konrad Adenauer to Adlai Stevenson. ‘No topic is too insignificant to be a news item, the news camera acts as a window to real and true events.’ A review of newsreels 1 to 400.
